The Green in the name had nothing to do with the sourcing or nature of the ingredients but to the fact that it was highly biodegradable. The formula never has been simple, and did contain a well known hazardous petrochemical solvent 2-butoxyethanol at 4% before 2012. Those claims are far removed from typical bathroom cleaners…for which one ought to wear mask and gloves if not more. The current Simple Green formula, since March 2012, contains no toxic ingredients, and the MSDS says it is not expected to cause respiratory, eye, or skin irritation. But the trend in household cleaners has been away from old fashioned toxic and irritating cleaners and to cocktails of less irritating, but often still toxic ingredients. Often they have contained strong ingredients like acids, ammonias, or petrochemical solvents…that could cause immediate irritation or even death. By definition, these kill life, less so humans perhaps. Most bathroom cleaners have some sort of sanitizer nowadays. That's not Chlorine-highly toxic, but it's still a strong oxidizing agent. The Green Work Bathroom Cleaner I have has Peroxide in it.
